How to Prevent Genital Herpes

Is there a way to prevent contracting Genital Herpes or any other STD?

Unfortunately, the only surefire way is to avoid sexual contact altogether. But for most people, that’s a very unattractive option. There are many safe sex practices that will help reduce the chance you will get a STD. Some of them are:

Use condom every time - Condom are very effective for preventing all STD’s, including Genital Herpes

Don’t sleep around - This one is pretty much common sense. The more sexual partners you have, the more likely you’ll contact a disease at some point. Keep one clean, tested partner who is equally committed to the relationship and you’ll both stay STD-free.

Be aware - Birth control pills, rings, shots, etc are usually not at all effective for preventing STD’s, because they are created for the purpose of preventing pregnancy. So check with your doctor before assuming that you are safe from STD’s just by using these birth control methods.

Be honest - You and your partner should always be honest with each other about any existing STD’s you already have. Hiding the fact can be problematic later on in the relationship, compromising trust.
